AUTHORITY NEWSPAPERS PARTNER WAANSA IN FIGHT AGAINST PROLIFERATION OF SMALL ARMS

One of the most widely read national tabloids, The Authority is to partner the West African Action Network on Small Arms, Nigeria chapter,WAANSA Nigeria, in its quest to rid the subregion of the scourge of small arms and  light weapons.

Chairman, Editorial Board of the Authority Media and Publication Limited,  Mr Uche Ezechukwu stated this in Abuja when WAANSA Nigeria President Jephthah  Asimole and his management paid him a courtesy call in his office.

We will do what we can as a media organization to support you and publicize your activities as you strive to rid West Africa of small arms and light weapons which have led to wars and subsequently the destruction of lives and property’s, Mr Ezechukwu said.

Earlier, WAANSA Nigeria President ,Mr Asimole thanked his hosts for the warm reception they were given and said his group was on a tour of media houses as part of activities marking the World Action Week Against Armed Violence.

In the words of Mr Asimole, ‘Your highly respected media house is our first port of call on the first day of the World Action Week Against Armed Violence which aims to spread the message on the evils associated with the spread of small arms particularly in the West African subregion’.

So we in WAANSA Nigeria seek your support in this assignment as we take this message to every nook and cranny of the country. We intend to engage local communities, youth organisations, civil society, security outfits, religious, political and educational institutions in this quest. We are determined to succeed and with your support, we will reach our target’.

On his part, editor in chief of The Authority, Mr Madu  Onuoha thanked the WAANSA Nigeria team for the visit and assured them that his office will do it’s best to help educate people on the dangers of small arms and light weapons proliferation especially in Nigeria.
